Job Requisition Number: 23884. The Lawrence Hall of Science is UC Berkeley’s public science center and a leading provider of science and mathematics educational materials and methods, professional learning programs for educators, and hands on learning experiences. The Hall is committed to providing access to high quality, effective science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences for all, especially those who are traditionally under represented in STEM fields. The Marketing Specialist supports the branding, marketing and communications efforts that are designed to lead to increased attendance and participation in Hall programs, as well as revenue generation from a wide range of sources including sales of Hall educational programs and services, retail merchandise sold in the Discovery Corner Store and Bay View Café, memberships, individual and corporate donations and sponsorships. The position involves the analysis of identified constituencies/audiences and the development of programs, services, and outreach to meet identified needs and influence public perception; may involve 'brand' development or enhancement; may involve working with the media (press, television, radio). The position will produce digital and some print communications, maintain the Hall’s social media channels, work with advertisers and sponsors, and provide marketing support to a wide array of Hall programs and products.
•Drafts and/or edits copy for marketing projects or programs featured on Hall website, in advertisements, on media announcements, et cetera. Creates publication-ready content for seasonal campaigns across print and digital media, including concept development with designers and program staff. Maintains Hall’s email marketing programs, social media channels, and event calendars to ensure current information is being effectively disseminated. •Under general supervision, plans, develops and implements basic marketing, advertising, and communications plans, strategies and/or events for projects. Works with Hall staff and the marketing team to develop and implement plans to achieve revenue, fundraising and audience goals. •Coordinates design, production and distribution of promotional materials, including internet or web materials, advertisements, flyers, signage, A/V presentations, banners, community event displays, etc. Conducts organic (non paid) and paid advertising placements and schedules. Oversees Google Adwords. Works with vendors and partners to effectively market Hall programs. •Ensures good customer service by providing appropriate information to answer questions and explain basic products and services. •Ensures all final materials have been proofed and reviewed by necessary stakeholders and appropriate sponsorship credit lines are included in all promotional materials as contractually obligated, and details such as contact information, and event times and dates are accurate and consistent. •Conducts basic market research and/or sales and generates and uses marketing and/or sales reports. Researches methods for generating awareness and building an audience of visitors and educators, presenting findings and recommending plans as appropriate •Creates/maintains marketing files, records, calendars, logs and other related documents. •Prepares billing paperwork and provides support as required to ensure vendors are paid on time as promised.•Two years marketing experience including digital marketing experience using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp and YouTube. •Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices. •Solid knowledge of institutional products and services. •Knowledge of the campus including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure. •Knowledge of customer service standards/procedures. •Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management. •Written and interpersonal communication skills. •Written and verbal English language skills. •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training •Demonstrated experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office & Adobe Creative Suite This is a 1 year contract position.
