The Marketing Communications Specialist is a high-performing member of the marketing department supporting the development and execution of strategic marketing communication activities for Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education. The Marketing Communications Specialist leads the department's copy writing and content development, including program descriptions, marketing promotions, alumni stories, related topics and items of interest, for use in print and digital campaigns. Responsibilities also include collateral development, management of the direct mail program, list and prospect research and vendor management. Management of direct mail includes serving as lead contact from concept to completion between internal clients (program directors and faculty) and outside vendors (printer, mail houses). Digital content will be used in web advertising, email and on social pages. Requires excellent writing and communication skills, a highly-organized and independent individual with a strong ability to prioritize and multi-task and at least five years of experience working on global marketing campaigns. Excellent vendor & project management and interpersonal skills are also a core requirement.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing Operations, the Marketing Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the marketing communications activities for a global marketing campaign designed to increase brand awareness of HKS Executive Education and drive enrollment for the suite of HKS Executive Education programs.
Content Development: Responsible for creating and transforming program concepts into compelling marketing copy for print and digital communications including direct mail, press releases, newsletters, flyers, email, and social media. Interview alumni to develop testimonials and alumni stories. Web and social content should be developed using best practices for SEO, length, and frequency.
Copy editing: Proofread and edit a range of marketing communications content including brochures, emails, and letters.
Direct Mail: Independently responsible for managing at least 20 direct mail programs a year that drive brand awareness globally for open-enrollment programs. Tasks include: overseeing schedule; collateral production; producing letters; identifying, purchasing, and compiling contact lists; coordinating with external vendors (list owners, printers, mail house), and tracking response rates
Marketing Collateral: Develop open-enrollment and contract program collateral pieces, ranging from brochures to overview sheets. Work with internal and external stakeholders including program directors, marketing agency, mail house, and printers throughout the entire process from creation to production.
List Research and Analysis: Responsible for building prospective applicant lists through research and analysis to support a range of direct mail campaigns critical to driving enrollment. Analyze list performance.
Reporting & Tracking: Prepare a variety of department reports including analysis of direct mail performance, web and social post performance, and monthly summaries of all program-specific marketing activity.
Inventory Management: Responsible for managing the collateral inventory for items kept in-house and at vendor locations. Order new inventory as needed.
Brand standards: Works closely on development and enforcement of quality and standards protocols; ensures compliance with standard use guidelines for HKS and Harvard University brands. Works with all staff members tasked with representing Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education externally to ensure that the presentation of the HKS brand and programs represent Harvard University standards.

Three years of related marketing experience.
Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, or a related field strongly preferred. Excellent writing and proof reading skills, excellent project management skills, firm grasp of Microsoft Office – specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, ability to foster relationships with multiple internal and external constituencies, and experience working within a marketing environment. Experience with Salesforce and Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Experience in higher education a plus. Experience with online marketing tools including Google Analytics and an Email Service Provider.
