Posting Summary: University Advancement seeks highly qualified writers to fill the position of University Annual Giving's Associate Director, Direct Marketing. We seek an accomplished communications professional who will have broad-based oversight over conceptualizing, writing, and editing content about the University of Virginia that supports efforts to raise and increase annual giving, engage alumni, parents, and friends, and cultivate long-term constituent relationships. The Associate Director ensures all communications meet University brand guidelines, align to message, and incorporate best practices. The Associate Director's responsibilities also include writing content for social media and digital campaigns. As part of University Annual Giving's Direct Marketing Team, the Associate Director reports to the Senior Associate Director, Direct Marketing, and collaborates with colleagues within the Office of Engagement and across University Advancement.
A Bachelor's Degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing or related field and at least three years of related experience are required, including:
-Writing multi-channel direct response appeals -Building relationships and supporting customers -Working with metrics
Preference will be given to those with experience working for a four-year higher education institution and/or affiliate health system or annual fund writing in the non-profit sector.

-Excellent written communication skills, including: editing, fact checking, and proofreading -Excellent oral and interpersonal skills -Ability to interview university leaders, fundraisers, and faculty members across a wide range of disciplines and produce highly creative, accurate, and tightly written content -Demonstrated ability to listen carefully and fully understand internal and external partners' needs -Proven time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously with careful attention to detail -An understanding of philanthropy, higher education, relationship management, and marketing principles -Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
