Oversees and manages video productions, oftentimes independently, from start to finish to create informative and evocative video content that (fits the context of where it is viewed) capture and display AU’s campus and highlight a student’s daily life at AU.
Responsibilities include preproduction (concept design, writing creative briefs/storyboarding/scripting, securing on-camera talent, scheduling, etc.), capturing video and audio (or using existing assets), and editing of the final project.
Responsible for organizing and conducting photography shoots to get imagery needed for publications, video, the web, social media, and any other platform that we currently or will utilize.
This position reports directly to the Senior Director for Marketing and Communications
This position will collaborate with individuals from across American University to help the institution best tell its story to prospective undergraduates and their families
This position should require minimal supervision and must function independently at a high level
This position interacts with staff, faculty, and students across all levels at the university and works with Admissions and Financial Aid staff to effectively promote the university and its programs and to meet Office of Enrollment goals
This position will help AU tell its story to 70,000+ undergraduate student inquiries every year

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience in a related field in multimedia, film studies, film production, or digital imaging
Ability to oversee and manage video productions, oftentimes independently, from start to finish to create informative and evocative videos that fit the context of where they will be viewed
Experience with the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking to capture and edit compelling footage
Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or Davinci Resolve, and ability to edit videos that will resonate with a prospective undergraduate audience
Knowledge of photography to capture stills needed for various marketing initiatives
Ability to research a wide range of subjects/content and subsequently develop talking points, a storyboard, or a script to be used by yourself or an external production crew
Ability to work independently and collegially in collaboration with AU students, faculty, and staff from around the campus community
Ability to communicate with a variety of people in a diverse environment and to be flexible about work load and priorities
Should have initiative to identify areas or channels where content is lacking and develop plans to fill those gaps
Looking for strong project management skills to organize and serve as on-location producer when larger projects require an external video/photography production team
Preferred Education and Experience
Basic knowledge of motion graphics, After Effects, and digital animation
